| Good to hear Zippy. Now just rest up and be kind to yourself.
Debs there is such a thing as first bite syndrome. To overcome it you have a warm drink before eating and for the first few bites don't take anything bigger than the size of a pea and chew it like buggery.

| Well done Zippy, sounds like you came through it like a champ! So glad it went well and you're feeling not too bad considering. Will you stick around on this forum for a while and keep us posted how the sleeve is going? I know there's a sleeve forum that probably wants to take you away! lol So glad you came through it all ok and hope you're feeling better each day. Thanks for you kind words losingit. I feel like i've failed with the band...i had such high hopes. Maybe it is me...i know i could do better but it seems to be all or nothing. And i can't remember when i was last able to eat a warm meal. When i get a cooked meal i have two bites and my band, or something siezes up, and i can't get anymore down for about 20 mins (by then the food is cold) reheating is never as nice and one that 20 minutes is up i don't seem to have any restriction at all and can eat way too much. Kind of like the band is either working too well or not working at all. So frustrating. Ok, enough whinging...lol debs | |

| Im back home. I wont go into gory details but I will say that the pain I felt post op was the worst I have ever experienced... It was most probably gas but it blardy hurt. i had no shoulder tip pain what so ever and ended up and still have the headache from hell.
As far as intake, I can only fit in 30ml comfortably if I sip it at a time... five minutes later I can do another 30 ml... this will change but its slow going at the moment.
I have absolutely no hunger and I was given strained porridge this morning and 1 teaspoon and I was done.
there is little to no pain in my incisions and am feel normal to move around... a little tired of course but normal. More so than after the band I dont know why.
nausiea...had that but I think it was more due to the heavy duty pain killers...endone and morphein. It was quickly killed with a spiffy injection and I was back to complaining about other stuff...as I do.
I jumped the gun and demanded coloxyl the first day and as soon as I was allowed pear juice I was sipping that down... shortly afterwards my efforts were rewarded...so I did indeed manage to stop the bite that the morphein etc has on the pipes. I will be keeping up the regeme for a few more days till I can settle into a routine with my liquids.
So there you have it ... all done and dusted for better or worse, who knows, only time will tell

| Debs I think your 'failure' with the band is something that will ultimately befall many banders. There will be some lucky ones who don't have too many issues and can probably sustain the weightloss long-term.
I feel I have failed. No, actually, the BAND has failed me. It never gave me restriction. I have had things stuck, and that can still happen, but I'm not going back to the days of struggling to get even a glass of water down in half an hour, or vitamising my food, or gurgling non-stop just to lose weight. In my opinion it's not worth it. If I could just eat a small amount, be satisfied, and have no issues, I'd be happy.
Lots of banders have moved onto sleeves and from all reports they seem happy with the change. I just can't see myself going that route in the short-term, my current level of health cover wouldn't fund it, and I'm not desperate enough to pay it out of my own pocket.
I know how to lose weight, in fact I reckon I'm an expert. My problem has always been keeping it off, or in my terms, "I'm expert at losing weight, I'm just MORE expert at putting it on"!

| Zip i didn't realise you were going in for the sleeve. Good luck! Let us know how it goes. Sorry ladies to bomb your month, i am an august girl but it is so quiet over there....my fault too as i haven't been on the forum in quite a while. My weightloss has stopped, is going in reverse a bit in fact and am having trouble with my band. Just felt like a failure i suppose. Wish i could afford to get the sleeve instead...sick of things getting stuck, vomiting and then being able to eat a horse and chase the rider....sigh. Sorry about the whinge...really just wanted to congratulate zippy wish her well. Hope everyone else is doing ok. Cheers! debs | |

| Nah same bloke... and 2 grand richer after my visit today...not sure what I will get back from fund and medicare... I call him lurch cos thats who he reminds me off.
Linda I have to be front and centre at the hospital at 7 in the morning which means leaving here around 5.30. I have to stop eating at mid night and stop drinking at 6 in the morning. The nurse told me to make sure I have a big drink at 5 to six to make sure my shitty veins are nice and plump. She told me to take my Nexium round 5.
Soooooo I am guessing its a 4 oclock start up for me...yay..oh well I will get a good sleep later so its all good.
Was pretty shattered emotionally after seeing gas man today, he really was the bringer of doom... luckily the march thread is as wonderful as my junie thread and they kicked me up the arse for my negativity and moaning about not going through with it all.
I just keep thinking... good drugs...good drugs...no house work...peace and quiet...

| Hey Zippy - hope it all goes to plan tomorrow and you are up and about feeling as cheery as Westy was last week. Will be thinking about you. Just take it easy, you've done all the hard preparation work admirably, so now it's just up to the medical people.
Have a good night's sleep, and know you are in good hands tomorrow. You've been there before so you have some idea what to expect.
By the way, was it the same gas man you had last time, or a new recruit (for your surgeon)?

| well Im back... the gas man has scared the tripe out of me with his version of "dont worry your in good hands but you will probably bleed to death or die in great pain and suffering"
Also the nurse took my temp 3 times and 3 times came up with me running a high temp.. she checked my wee for an underlying UTI but it was clear... she said I should be feeling like shit but I dont...bit tired... windy and over opti but ok I think... or maybe I am too busy to notice Im sick. I will have a mars bar later to medicate ... that will fix it.
So got me buggared why I am a lil thermostat at the moment.. meh.. wont matter Im apparently in trouble tomorrow according to the cherriest gas man in the world....he should have been santa you know!

| zippy is ok... cleaned out... windy but cleaned out. My gut is bloated and full of wind that wont come out...hopefully it escapes today. I had a vision this morning while laying in bed of me being under the anaesthetic and it finally letting go in one long bugle note. I can see people runnig from the theatre fanning their faces ...fingers over noses and my surgeon out cold on the floor.
I have decided to stick to pure fluids today as someone on our thread said their doc requires this. Apparently he has operated on people who still had solid food in their gut the next day... I figure I got a gut full of foul air...so I wont tempt fate.
Today I have to travel an hour away and go to the hospital at 9.45 for my Teds measurement and other such things like weighing and being read the riot act of surgery...then at 1 I have to go see the gas man for my pre surgery sucking outa me of more money.
I am not particularly wanting to do either today, I would have much rathered be at home and do a bit of tidy up before I toddle off tomorrow.
Still... one does what one has to and I will bend to the wishes of the powers to be and do as I am told. It of course would be so much better if I could have cake and a cuppa at morning tea...but alas it aint gonna happen!

| Oh well, if it's all out now then you know at least when you have your op any bloating is not caused by a build-up of crap. | |
