Cate how's your thyroid? Is it in range? That can effect weight loss if its hypo. I know a lot of docs think 'high normal' is fine but generally that's considered hypo in the USA. Might not be that, just trying to think of what could be effecting your weightloss when you eat so little...unless your metabolism has slowed right down because of the tiny amounts. Otherwise hmmmm....have you been checked your diabetes? Or a metabolic condition like syndrome X? Maybe upping the exercise would give it a jolt. Its a constant battle though, even with a band. I know my sister doesn't really take my weightloss seriously because i've got a band....i think she thinks its like cheating on a test...if you get good marks on a test because you cheated it doesn't count. If someone says something about my loss her expression says 'yeah well if you have a band what do you expect..' Its not like that though as we bandits all know, it can be just as hard to loose weight with a band as without one. Its all a mind thing. Anyway, i digress...

Your kitten sounds so cute. You should put a pic up. We got a new pup about a month ago and she is the most gorgeous girl...though a little terror! lol I'll try and add a pic of her....testing my computer skills.....lol

nup...tried and failed...computer skills crap. lol

Thanks Deb....I do not think I would have a unfill again, I weighed myself this morning and I am putting on weight, just cannot beleive it...I think I have to starve to lose weigh...I eat from a small babys dish, eat cruskits etc etc.....something better change, nearly over all this....yes and the pain in the chest, I get that, and then it goes to my shoulder blades, very uncomfortable, but only after eating.......
Hope you all have a lovely Sunday, just been playing with our new Ragdoll kitten, he is so so cute......love my cats, so unconditional.......

HI Cate,

i've heard lots of people talk about this. Apparently when you have some out and then more in it fills up differently and presses on different parts of the stomach wall...some areas are more sensitive, like where the vegus nerve is, so when a compartment in the band fills there it gives stronger full signals (something like that.) Some people say their sweet spot changes after an unfill and refill. I know that i don't really get a 'full' feeling even though i've got 7ml in...when i stop eating after a small amount its mostly because of chest pain. I sometimes wonder if its just that my band hasn't had 'that' compartment filled with water...the vegus nerve part. Hmmmm.... its a constant learning experience and seems down to trial and error mostly. I also tend to want to eat at night...partly habit with me due to being an insomniac and getting bored....and partly hunger, even when i've had a good day of eating.
Maybe your new 'sweet spot' is an extra mil or half mil more than it was before? Wish i could help more but I kind of have the same problem. lol

I just do not get it...before I had the unfill about 2 mths ago, I had real good restriction, was not hungry at all, and losing weight, but had the unfill to see if it eased the vomiting, which it did not - have had it put back in, but now still hungry and can eat still alot, compared to the amount I consumed before the unfill ( now at the same point in my band) so why is it so different....????...going to have some more in next week.....I am fine during the day, but at night, could eat the horse and chase the rider, and really struggling not to eat........I think I am just about to do a dummy spit re this band.....

Aaargh - well - yes, I did lose weight, and quite a lot - just short of 100 kgs. However, best not to mention where I am now. Suffice it to say that since I gave up exercise (another long story), I have regained a lot of the weight that I lost. No matter what program I have ever followed, if I don't exercise rigorously, the weight just doesn't shift.

My theory is that, band or no band, the weight loss part is still up to the individual. You have to be vigilant about what you eat, and how much. Exercise may be optional for some. I don't wish to run my band so tight that I can't enjoy life. I also don't wish to have to spend hours a day exercising for the rest of my life. I am now almost resigned to being a large person forever. I didn't recognise myself, nor did others, when I was 'slimmer'. I lost more than half my body weight, and felt that I lost part of who I am along the way.

With vigilance you can lose a lot of weight too, even if you never reach a sweet spot. The hard part for me has always been to KEEP it off!

Hey Loosingit, sorry to hear you've never found your sweet spot. It sucks balls doesn't it. Have you managed to loose weight still, over the course of the three years? It is frustrating but i would rather have the band and the discomfort than not have it and gain the weight back, or not have lost the weight in the first place. I guess you tried the fills using point of a mil increments? I'm thinking of trying .5ml increase next time i see the doc...not sure though...i have quite a few 'stuck' moments as it is. Hmmmm.... seems that for some of us it will probably always be a bit of a struggle. debs

Debs - my twin:

"Seems like its either 'first bite' and pain sydrome or eat anything because of no fullness syndrome. Where's the happy medium syndrome."

Ok - I'm 3 years banded, and I have never found a sweet spot. I can either not swallow my own saliva, or I can eat a horse (ok, slight exaggeration). I get the pain in the chest sometimes too, and I ran my band reasonably tight for quite a long time, never pb'd, but could experience extreme pain and just had to wait until the offending item made it's way through. Just a warning that not everyone reaches a sweet spot.

These days I run my band looser, am able to enjoy more foods without so much issue, but I still chew like mad, eat a lot slower than I did pre-band, but not to that ridiculously slow point where I ate EVERY hot meal cold. I can't live like that. Suits some people, just doesn't suit me.

Glad the extra fill is working or you Cate and well done on the loss. Sorry to hear you're run down Kirsten, they say the nails and hair is one of the first things to go when you're unwell. I bite my nails (bad) but i can always see it in my hair when i'm unwell.
I think i suffer from that first bite syndrome too. When i start eating, after a few bites, i get bad pain in the chest. If i let it settle, like you after about 15 mins, i can eat pretty much what i want without pain. The thing that bothers me i don't get that full feeling...not on a small amount of food anyway. I feel like i can't go much tighter because i do get chest pain and i worry i'll find it hard to get anything down with more fill, yet on the 7ml i've got i don't get 'full' or the fullness you're supposed to get on a small amount. I'm still at 91kg so haven't gained but i haven't lost either :( I just wish i could find that sweet spot, that fullness on a small amount without the pain. Seems like its either 'first bite' and pain sydrome or eat anything because of no fullness' syndrome. LOL
Where's the happy medium syndrome :)

Kirsten, I know we are all different, but I can hardly eat more than a cup, but if it is vegies I seem to be able to eat more, would not be game enough to eat a donut, anything with wheat is a big no no for me again, I still would like another .25mls in.......hope you get over your colds ok, the family here have had it also, grandkids came with it........
The chewing part is also an issue with me - I forget...!!!!...seem to be better when out in public as I am more aware of NOT embarrassing myself...LOL I also aware that I suffer with that 'first bite' syndrome, very difficult to start with, but after the first 15 mins it settles and I can eat rather well ( I mean withgout pain)....always have a hot cuppa now ( if only 1/2 one) before my meals.....
Anyhow, doing reports this weekend, siting in the caravan in the shed, as it is the only place I can get some quiet......it is my home away from home...LOL

Cate xoxoxo

PS..WW is keeping me goal focused...really need something like that, I really do not care how much I lose, as long it is a loss....

Hi, Choc fudge cake, mmmmmmmm, back away from the chocolate cake, lol I'v been stealing in a iced donut from the bakery of an afternoon lately. Some times I can almost just breath it in. I'm such a gluten. Glad the adjustment is settling in nicely Cate. Whats WW like? I've been having one of those Kate Morgan shakes for lunch when I'm at work lately. Figured why not, it stops me from buying something unhealthy for lunch. I've been finding that I eat alot less than pre banding, but still I don't take long enough to eat, and can still have a reasonable amount to eat. Since my last visit to the doc, I'm meant to be slowing down my eating, and making a break inbetween chews. I've been slack on this. Time to pick up my game. I also haven't exercised in weeks, between going back to work (which bites the big one!) having a vein phelbectomy (mind the spelling), my little darling having a cold and now me with it AGAIN, I just don't seem to have the mojo. I even slept on the couch yesterday when I put my son down for a nap. I'm just so tired. Ohh yeah, also my nails are so brittle. I normally have beautiful long and strong nails, I always have, but for the past few weeks they are these short stubbly things and as soon as they grow alittle they are like chipping and snapping off. I think I'm just run down. Well time to make the little monster behind me some breakfast, and I need a mulit vitamin and a coffee. K

Going ok since I had the refill, it is amasing how much differance .5mls makes...went out for dinner tonight, had a babe plate with mash and vegies, only ate about 1/3, and was so full...by the scales I am down nearly 2kgs off the lot I put on!!!...will go to weight watchers Tuesday, and see how match I am really down, missed last week as I was on the gold coast......

Good on you Deb - size 16 - congrats.......
Interesting had pea and ham soup last night - terrible reaction - spewed and spewed, today has been great - had 2 plain cruskets at 11am with 1/2 cuppa, lunch was 2 cruskets with salad and chicken and the cuppa, watch Bridesmaids with my daughter ( and hubby) and shared a meal at the tavern ( mostly salad and a cottage pie) - no problems at all ( and ate popcorn at the pictures - only a small hand full).....the frickle band...

Well done Kirsten, you're doing great. Sounds like you had a fun night :)

Sorry the vomiting is back Cate...sounds like its either drought or flood. Must be so frustrating. Be interesting to hear what the dietician says.

Had my mammogram. It wasn't as bad as i thought...not painful, just uncomfortable. Glad its over though. Should get the results in a week or so but not expecting any bad news so it'll be fine.

I went to shop today to get some jeans...pulled on my usual size 18 and they felt too big. Tried on a size 16 and they fit! I never thought i'd see the day. lol

Hi Deb...one of my kittens little siblings went down your way???? I got him from a lady on the otherside of Brisbane - Sunshime coast....Ragdolls are so so funny.......
Have so far been keeping food down.....it seems that I will always be touchy with food.....they said I might be better off getting a sleeve done - no way I said....happy with this.......
Not sure how much I have in..think it is about 3 to 3.5 mls in a 7 mls band ( can lose up to 1ml over 12 months)....they will not take it all out as she said it can upset the position......but I think I am there, could possibly get another .25mls in a month or 2.....

Hey Cate, glad the fill turned off the hunger switch. Are you keeping stuff down ok? Maybe this will be the sweet spot...or close to it anyway. How exciting, a new kitten! My sister just brought a ragdoll too. We just got a new puppy, a little aussie bulldog. Would post a pic but not sure how.

I'm off to the doc now to have a mammogram...eeek! Its my first ever and i'm so nervous. I've heard they hurt a bit. Have to have a papsmear too. Oh, wait, its papsmear today and mammogram tomorrow. jebus...i'd forget my head if it wasn't screwed on right.

Hi all....went and visited the 'dr' yesterday......had the .5mls put back, OMG had put on 3 kgs!!!!!..I told her that I have been starving since they took out the last .5mls, I also stated how I could not satisfy my hunger etc etc......she said that this often happens, and the pressure has been taken off that nerve, well the upside is - instant hunger turn off after the fill!!!! not hungry, not looking for food, could not care less about food....how weird is that.......
Also joining weight watchers tonight, just to get that motivation and goal thing going.....hubby has put on weight from the food that I cannot eat, so he finishes all that off, is also up 7 kgs.......and having a adult child back home that loves cooking is not helping!!!!
Any now back on the waggon.........hope every one else is travelling ok.....we had a great weekend, pick up our new little ragdoll kitten at a show ( he replaced the cat that the dog killed, just cannot live without my Ragdoll!!) - cats shows are less stressing than horse ones...lol

Cate xoxoxo

PS Hope you are travelling ok Kirsten and over that bug.........xoxoxo
