| Tanya shoulder tip pain is a funny one as I have found out. I never had it during the operations but I get it now. At first the doctors said it was muscular but now they are saying that I get gas caught after about an hour of eating and that starts it off. I don’t have it for ages and then it comes again. They have told me to stretch my arms over my head and move around bending in that position. Who knows. Delia

| Hi Tanya, I didn't know what a endoscopy was and had to google it, lol. I aksed the doc a few weeks ago about the shoulder tip pain and he thought that it shouldnt be related and just to monitor it and discuss next time I was there if I was still having it. It went away a few days after I saw him. So good for me at the moment | |

| Hi Tanya,
Sounds like the referred pain you can get with irritation of the diaphragm or vagus nerve. Very very common after laparoscopy due to the insufflation of carbon dioxide gas, but I guess when they do an endoscopy as they pass through the stomach you could still get irritation.
It should settle in a few days. Mine felt like my arm was dead...very uncomfortable to raise it. Felt better if I lay on that side.
Hope all was good! Getting closer now! Good luck! | |

| Dear Beth, Kirsten , Delia or anyone else who might know,
...is it possible to get shoulder pain after the endoscopy. I feel like I have sprained my arm (shoulder socket) and it's ouchy to lift the whole arm up.
Is that the shoulder tip pain people refer to? |

| I have not had the shoulder tip pain for about 10 days and out of the blue I got it today. I was sitting having a drink with my husband and a friend when it started. Why is beyond me. This time it was only in the shoulder tip. Lasted about 11/2 hours and then I noticed it was gone. ????? Delia | |

| Thanks for your thought. I was starting to worry that maybe it had slipped or something and thats why I am having the pain. I have been exercising more, so that might be contributing to it. I stopped doing the stomach crunches as once or twice it just felt strange, so I'll skip those for a while. I'll speak to the doc on the 27th and let you know the outcome. I hope it passes soon as sometimes it's really hard just to push on through it. | |

| Any irritation to the diaphragm can cause shoulder tip pain. Unlikely to be trapped gas at this stage, though that is the prime cause early in the banding journey, in the immediate post op period. It could be that your band is causing a little friction on the diaphragm now, because you have lost fat in the area. Are you exercising more than you have been previously? Just a couple of thoughts! | |

| My dear Mum says that the shoulder pain is from air or something that the surgeons use to make space when they are operating. It travels to the muscles separating them or straining them temporarily. Sounds believable to me. So maybe residual muscle damage??? Ha! who needs a medical degree anyway... |

| Hi Kirsten I did not have the tip pain when I had the operations but for some reason I have been getting it the last few months. Just about 2 years on. My doctor does not think it is anything to do with the band but I am not so sure. It goes across my left chest to the shoulder and sometimes down the arm or up the jaw. I was a bit afraid it was my heart but he assures me it is not and that is it is muscluar. It sure feels like shoulder tip pain to me. | |

| Hi, Just a question I thought someone might be able to answer. I had shoulder tip pain after surgery for only a short while, but the last week it is back. Has anyone else experienced this? I have been doing alot of aerobics over the last few weeks, but haven't had any injurys as such, any ideas? Also while I'm at it I heard somewhere that you shouldn't do sit ups after surgery or something like this, is that true? Thanks Kirsten | |
