Kazza, My surgeon put 4 ml in my band on the day of the surgery in May 2010! I hit the ground running! I have a 7 ml MIDband...I have been up to as much as 5.5ml...now I have 4.25ml...and I am going to get 0.25 ml in next week. Everyone is different, and different doctors have different ways of doing things.

| it all depends on the size of the band you have inserted, I have a small 8ml band so I only had 1ml put in first up.
It sounds like you have a larger size. dont panic its not about the size of your innards or anything it just depends which size and style of band your doc favours using.
Now for the lecture....take it easy the next few days...stick to liquids today and move on to slippery foods for the next few days, watch your portion sizes carefully and make sure you chew chew chew.
Dont be dissapointed if you dont get much restriction out of this first fill, it can take a couple before it kicks in

| Hi Kazza,
I wouldn't say that it's normal as such, every surgeon has their own way of doing things. Many start the fills process very slowly. Having said that mine puts 6mls in on your first fill.
Did you have your first fill today ?? (Woo Hoo !)
Cheers Tara | |

| Every meal and every snack is protein so I never feel hungry plus my little friend helps me along. I learnt the protein thingy when I did that protein diet from TV before I was banded found my love for protein then | |

| Sharon asked about foods that stave off hunger. High protein foods will help. If you can eat bacon and eggs at breakfast then give it a go. You shouldn't feel hungry til lunch. A poached egg or dry fried with a couple of rashers of short cut bacon works wonder for hunger during the morning. I also find that a small tub of yoghurt (greek style) is good for hunger as well. It makes a good mid arvo snack. Smoked salmon and tomato on crackers is another good protein fix and wil help with hunger as well. | |

| So how many times has he done that to see if there is a leak? Does he suspect there is a leak? Next time I would just ask him to top up and not take it out. Sometimes you can get pretty close to full capacity before you hit the sweet spot. My band holds 4mls and I have 3.6mls in it. When I have 3.4mls in it the difference is incredible. One drop can make such a difference.
Hang in there! | |

| Hey Everyone My Surgeon always takes all the fluid out each time to check to see if there is a leak. Always good restriction for first couple of days then it wears off completely. Had a fill 2 weeks ago, and now I am so hungry, put on a kilo its not funny. Back to see him this week for another fill. I have a 10ml band and 8.5 fill. What happens if you get to 10ml and stil dont have that restrition (bit worried) When will it end. Westy | |

| Fills are fickle things. You think you are at your sweet spot and then it wears off. Having been banded over 4 years you do get to a point where it doesn't wear off. If your doctor removes fill to check the amount in the band and then refills, then the band pleats differently. Then what used to be your sweet spot could be an over fill or an underfill. So if it is working leave it alone. If you need more fill get it. A tiny amount can make such a huge difference. If you are too tight it can cause all sorts of problems down the track. | |

| I wonder if a sweet spot exists too. Just after a fill I feel great restriction but it doesn't last. I wish I didn't get hungry all through the morning like I do. Its such a battle. Any thoughts of kinds of foods that stave off the hunger?? | |

Back now from the fill, he threw in another .25ml so hopefully it will be "just right" again. I'll give mushies a go for a couple of days and hen we'll test drive this baby !!

- Hi all,
Thank goodness I can get in for another top up/refill tomorrow. Since the last unfill ALL I want to do is eat so I am hoping and wishing that this top up takes me back to my sweet spot where I wasn't constantly foraging for food.
And the shame and horror of it - I have gained a kilo or so. UGH !! There's not nearly as much joy when moving one's ticker up not down. In fact I'd better go do that now. Mumble grumble.
Bring on tomorrow !! Thanks for listening, Tara Hi Tara, You look like you have your head crewed on. i checked your profile, you are doing really well. regards sue

I need to share my shame ... bacon and eggs for breaky and then home made chicken noodle soup for lunch creamy chicken and mushroom fettucini for tea , snacks small bag of chips and a WHOLE BAG OF PINE APPLE CHUCKS! Got on the scales on Tuesday and nearly fall of with shame and shock 2 whole kilo's ! But happy to say as of this morning 1.5 of that is gone maybe it was fluid as well .. i have no restriction and am flying by the skin of my teeth my appointment is 2 august so hanging out for that it's been 6 months since i saw the Dr and will be 8 months when the appointment finally arrives i just hope i don't have a repeat of Sunday .......
