| Well, it's gathering momentum now.
Endoscopy tomorrow ( I just hope we can all agree on which end... ) Optifast from Friday. Dietitian in a week.

| Thanks Sal. Hopefully by this time next year l'll be somewhere near goal weight, but even if l'm not l'm still happy l made the decision to do it and got motivated to lose a chunk of weight. | |

| 4 weeks today until l'm banded! It's getting much more real now.
l was going to do 4 weeks of opti, but now that time is here l think l'll just do the 2 weeks l have to do, and do it well. Yeah l'm copping out.
So l have 2 weeks until l start opti. This week l think l'll try to keep going with the low net calories l've been doing lately. l'll aim for 700 net calorie after exercise (about 1700 calories eaten and 1000 used in exercise each day). Next week l may do a sort of Aitkins diet with almost all protein so l can get loads of steak in before the band goes in. Hopefully it'll help shrink the liver a little too, but mainly it's my last hoorah :-)
Cheers Steiny | |

| Thanks Tanya. The kids gave me their stomach bug so l actually lost a kilo on my birthday instead of the usual big gain. l still had a small bit of chocolate cake, but you know what they say, a moment on the lips, an eternity on the throne | |

Like yourself, I am just itching to get things started! So a bit of self induced purging sounds just spiffy. From what I have read it works very well in the short term.
Yes, I agree.. I might do the same. I know I have gained weight since my Dr last saw me, and I am thinking it would be safest that I try to get as much fat off my liver as possible before the surgery anyway... lol@captain awesome!! :D

| Hi Steiny Steiny I was thinking about optifast before hand as well, think it might be good preperation (if I can handle it). You paid for your surgery? Excellent. Some people say the banding is the worst bit, or maybe the opti - I reckon it must be the handing over of savings! |

I have picked up an arsenal of ideas so far. Care to add to that list?. My toughest part will be only eating a small mouthful every 60 seconds. l tend to inhale my food most of the time :-)

| One trick I have heard others use (and I wish I had done when out to dinner the other night).
Order your meal, serve the portion you wish to eat onto a smaller plate, then ask for the "leftovers" to be put straight into a takeaway container or put it onto someone else's plate.
This helps you to avoid over eating, stops you picking at more or that thinking "I'll have just ONE more mouthfull."

| I will add a few:
Small bites, and chew chew chew Eat very very slowly...don't load your fork or spoon until you have chewed - actually put them down and don't pick them up until you have swallowed the last bite. Use small bowls, plates to trick the mind. I still use a teaspoon for most meals! And the big one? Stop before you are full!!! Give the brain time to register that you are full.
I believe that is the big one cos that seems to be a common theme for us which got us to where we are today - not being able to recognise when we are full. By eating very slowly we not only give the food a chance to hit our tiny new tummies, it allows the brain to actually workout that we are full and don't need any more food, allowing you to push that plate away.
I don't know about you, but I used to blindly keep shovelling food in to my mouth cos I just loved the flavour...only to end up at the end feeling like I was gonna burst...but I would still keep shovelling.
The band will not let you do that - you can still shovel it in, but it won't take much shovelling til it has no where to go but up!
Anyway, just some things I have learned along the way....;-)

| Hi Megz and Steiny (and our most helpful Beth :) )- YES OUR TIME IS COMING SOON (drum roll please.... ) Then the fun and games really begin.
I have picked up an arsenal of ideas so far. Emergency fizzy drinks (to unblock the dreaded sticks), lettuce rolls, stopping a mouth full before you think you should, the difference it makes to eat quality food, steady as opposed to rapid weight loss for the skins sake, and yes the good news about sore joints and feet that look like the Stuart Highway- being a thing of the past...

Steiny you're the man! With all your weight loss, it's easy to forget you haven't been banded yet.
