| Oh and Linda... Im sorry to hear that your mum is still in difficulty after her stroke.
Like I have said before, my mum also suffered strokes until the final one that mercifully took her. It is very hard for them. My mum couldnt get her words together they were random words strung together ( oddly I was the only one appart from my youngest daughter and my dad who could clearly understand her and have a normal conversation with her)... she couldnt write either as the words came out jumbled as well.
She said that inside her head she was normal and was so frustrated that she screamed in there daily for her inability to be able to perform normal tasks... it was truely heartbreaking to watch when you had this knowledge that that is how she felt.
So my love... I hope things get better for her and for you and your family in this area. I know you have your own health issues as well so that makes it even harder for you to cope..... my thoughts are with you!

| Just also wanted to say that I didnt prepare much at all and took very little to hospital.
Foods were what ever everyone else was eating watered down or cuppa soups etc.
I did go get some lil bowls from spot light and casa loco. They are little finger food or sampling bowls the type that you put a little sauce in and they only hold about 2 or three tablespoons max. I found these great cos I just put my serves in them and they were pre measured so I knew it was perfect.
In fact I still use them sometimes for meals like fried rice ( made on the faux low carb rice you buy in woolies) and casseroles etc.
I find that if I serve small amounts then thats all I want ( lack of true hunger) but if I put more on my plate I will pace myself and get through all of it...so the smaller bowls and flat dinner plates ( I use a saucer) cut my serves and Im happy with that
its the whole "eat whats on your plate' syndrome for me.
I didnt do anything special like serve divider plates or make a freezer full of soups etc...been there did that with the band and to be honest I think I was pretty blaze about the sleeve... it was more a nerve thing than excitement and anticipation for me... in fact I had already decided I would be the one that would fail it.
beware the sleeve site... it can get you down trying to keep up with those that profess to eat such small portions and have zero desire for food....its crap...but you will beat yourself up because your not the same...again been there done that.
you will still have hungry days and will still be able to consume crap...though not as much. Having said that if you are a professional crap eater you manage to monster a lot of foods other sleevers seem to sniff their nose at.
I can still gain weight...its doable trust me and I think a farked metabolism from the band facilitates this issue....however it is very controlable if you revert to the protein rule ( which I am slack with these days)
All in all your exbandits and the shine is off you...your dont have sparkles in your eyes and are not reaching for the roses and picket fence dream of sleeving so you will be just fine and dandy with the reality of it all....as long as like I said you dont sink into that twisted mentality some of the sleevers that post on the site do.
Good luck girls, I cant wait to hear how your doing.

| Hey girls, I havent been around much cos my computer packed it in then my back did and Ive just been miserable.
I have just been laying around doing stretches and eating crap. On top of that I got a bladder infection so I have been a bag of bloody complaints and self pity the last few weeks....
I have to tell you I have gained a kilo eating nothing but chocolate and potatoe chips and medicating the pain in my back with wine...bah I will just have to work it off when I feel better
Girls I want to wish you all the luck in the world...Deb push the pain button!
Tara...soup and protein drinks... its the same diet as you did post op band to be honest but you wont be hungry at all like you were post op band. So having soups wont be an issue.
I also found that the chicken tonight style jar food was good and if you add a little water or milk and hit it with the wand blender it works a treat.
You will only get down a couple of tablespoons max of slops so dont go buying heaps of soups...make em...put half in the fridge to eat and freeze the other portion for later because a litre of soup metred out at 3 Tbls at a time takes a loooong time to get through and you certainly get sick of it
I still loved my small/mini can of baked beans blitzed with a cuppa marta soup and then cheese melted through it ....one cup of this did me an entire day.
For that fact your best bet is prob a couple of did flavours of cuppa soups...less wastage than the cans.
You will be surprised at how little you can eat and how little you want to eat.
stay away from anything sweetened if you can cos it will entice you to eat more and give you cravings for food even though your arent truely hungry...sooooo custard etc and up and gos.
I found having steamed chicken breast and cutting a little into the soup then blitzing it boosted protein and also gave them a little body.
There is always optispew if your desperate

| Yes it has been quiet lately. Nothing good to say LOL
I am flying to Perth today to see my mum. She has been in hospital for 5 weeks now (in rehab now). She had a stroke at the end of Feb and then a mini one in hospital. She is still paralysed down her right leg so I don't think she will ever be going home again. I just saw on the news that maggie thatcher died of a stroke in the night. I think that is what my mum would have preferred. AND it is going to be bloody 34 in Perth today. Just when it has cooled off nicely here to the low 20s.

| Hey T, hey girls. Its has been quiet here huh. I hope everyone had a nice easter. I did :) and then had to start optifast the next day. LOL God i forgot what a bastard that is.
Only a week to go for me, this exact time next week i'll probably be sitting in bed shitting bricks because i have to drive up to the hospital the next day.
I don't feel nervous yet either...just kind of...like it isn't real or something. lol Strange. I'm so not organised either. My boyfriends car packed it in so i've leant him mine for the last week so i've had no transport and been stuck at home..just me and my optifasts :( God its sucked! I get my car back tomorrow so hopefully will be able to start organising things a bit.
Can't believe its getting so close, feels like only weeks ago i got the band out. Like Tara says, when it comes out you do realise that even though it played up, it did something. It was so nice to enjoy my food again...until opti started that is.
Anyway, hope everyone is well.

| Yoooooooo Hoooooo ... where are we all girls ???
Been very quiet around here lately.
Well for anyone hating their band or thinking you may be better off without it .. I have not stopped eating since they removed mine. Maybe better the devil I know was in fact my devilish little bad !! A naked tummy is certainly not the solution for me.
Best get off an amputate 3/4 of it !!!!!! LOL
Actually it's kinda gotten here really quickly. Not even close to prepared or excited yet, in fact I think I am in some sort of weird denial. Eeek
So Debs goes in on the 16th and I go in on the 30th of this month.
Any post surgery recipes, tips, hospital supplies etc etc you remember we might need please let me know (especially as I am sooooooooooooo unprepared !!)
Night girls, I hope this finds you all um as well as can be expected and happy little campers ?!

| LMFAO Losingit...hahahaha... doing three optis a day works out to be about 800calories...no wonder you lose weight on it then!
I think it explains why i'm fat then...i am insomniac. Its not the chocolate or the kfc or the chips or the bread or the fizzy drink...its that i'm not sleeping my full eight hours! Hahaha....if only!
Was talking to my dietician today and she told me she has 19 sleeve patients to see or is seeing over a period of two months...and only two band patients. She said that the docs up here are barely even mentioning the band anymore, unless people specifically beg for it. Interesting i thought!

| Yep - up to 106 at last weigh in.
I did buy myself a FITBIT ONE. Which is a pedometer that logs just about everything so I have been looking for excuses to take the stairs (I did 14 flights UP today) and parking a bit further away.
Sooooooo I am deluding myself that I will be magically skinny by next week !!! Yes even while eating ice cream and pizzas and toast etc. Oh gosh and don't even mention the chocolate.
Still haven't been back to Dr for a post op check up. Crap I am hopeless. Think I've been avoiding him cos IF I don't see him he can't order me to do the Opti.
Ba ha ha DELUDED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG OMG EDIT ... did you guys know that we burn around 800 calories in our sleep !!!!! Boo Yeah !

| Ahhh yes that article has been going around the world. It has led to a lot more people joining the support group. It really is not as rare as made out. Now with the internet more people are finding out what it is. I have had it for 20 years but didn't know what it was until about 4 years ago. Mostly it is in remission but this time has been 2 years. | |

| If you truely hate opti...try the shakes I mentioned from that chemist in the Target arcade... they are way better tasting as are the bars... and you can sup with the opti bars if you dont mind them.
I made egg drop soup a lot and ate that .... boil up a chicken stock cube in a cup or two of water...boil the shite out of it and drop in a raw egg and stir till shredded. I also added my free veg into it like broccoli and cabbage etc to bulk it up and fill me up..
I also made up the banana shake in the be good to yourself and froze it as an ice block...that worked well as did half freezing diet cordial then shaking the shit out of it to make a slushy.
Lots of diet jelly made stronger so its more rubbery
Its only 2 weeks deb and it really does prepar you and get you into ketosis for fat burning after the op...not only that but it gets the liver shrunk.
I have noted that people who do a good pre op opti style diet do better with weightloss after...those who dont and cheat a lot or simply half do it really struggle to lose weight after the operation.
Its the first 3 days thats the hardest hon....and a little trick is to start on an atkins style diet now so its not as hard with the carb cravings when you hit opti. I did a semi atkins (a much meat as I wanted when ever and where ever I wanted food + free veg) prior to my opti phase and I found opti much easier this time round.
I have read that a clean liver burns fat more efficiently...

| No its not its choc flavoured...I have a ton of it if you want a couple of scoops full to try before you buy it.
To be honest I didnt have any luck with a flavourless protein powder added to hot foods. They had to be luke warm or they curdled and the protein is rendered ineffective for the body to up take. Also they make things chalky.
For me it was a matter in the early stages of having a high protein shake for lunch or morning tea and for arvo tea. Two of the high protein shakes gave me more than enough protein in a day...any more and its not used by the body anyway
You will be intaking such low volumes of food in the begining and have zero desire for food anyway that just that simple act along with your soups ( especially if you brew up your own low carb high protein soups and blitz and freeze them now) will be more than enough
Just stay away from your up and go's etc......way too high in the carbs to boost your weight loss.
Take advantage of the early stage of the surgery....

| bare with me cos Im typing this on my phone and its not zippy friendly! The only other protein powder ( almost zero carbs) I have used that is not too shabby ( I got it from the health food shop here but its cheaper on line, is Balance. Its called divine chocolate and I bought PB2 powder on line and I add a teaspoon of that to change it up sometimes. Check out ebay its a ton cheaper than the shop which is terribly expensive, Oooooooor if your up for a really tasty powder that has 14 carbs "be good to your self" http://amcal.begoodtoyourself.com.au/amcal/products/Shakes and bars are yummy... I actually did these instead of opti pre op cos they didnt make me gag... I get them from the Chemist in the manning mall. | |
