| I miss the taste of the chocalate optifast, I really enjoyed all there products and what I really found interesting was that after 2 weeks on it my taste buds started working for the first time in 20 years. | |

| Well this is the dreaded day 3... I have a headache and stiff joints all attributed to detox I suppose.
I have done well except for a little dalliance with a teaspoon of peanut butter yesterday all in all not too bad.
I was starving yesterday but got through. I find at dinner if I have a cup full of salad and a diet coke I can save my shake for later when I am starting to look for that lil sumpin sumpin.
So far I do a shake for breaky...a cup of black coffee for morning tea... a cup of legal veg soup and half a bar and the other half of the bar for afternoon tea then dinner...salad or soup then my shake later...loads of water...
Sometimes I scarf the whole bar at lunch like yesterday, I was starving and it was eat the whole freaking bar now or blow out and eat some bread. Not having my half bar left for arvo tea found me in the pantry with the lid of the peanut butter.
I treat myself with pepsi max and a couple drops of almond essence to turn it into diet cherry coke, heaps of ice and I am in heaven.
Love love love that I can eat salad. I cant tell you how good it is to sit down to a plate full of fresh crunchy green stuff..mmmmmmmm who would have thunk it.
I was reading one ladys experience of being an exbandit and she had an orange and it was orgasmic... she said that after all the years with the band to eat an orange was like the most decadant luxury on earth. Funny how its the simple things isnt it.
Mine was definitely salad and after the band came out I ate as much of it as I could.

| I'm not really sure how she is. I got the impression that she still uses optifast a lot.
Good idea put all that stuff that you shouldn't be eating in the freezer.

| Thanks Linda (and Pyretta). By the way, how is Pyretta?
I know people have added ice to their Optifast to make it really cold (and perhaps frothy). Given that I'm not a fan of anything cold, except icecream, I was always one to mix it with tap water, then add a bit of boiling water to top it up, or put in the micro for a short time. I just can't stomach anything icy cold.
Hmmmm - therein lies the solution: eat everything icy cold, and it would be the best way for me to lose weight. If it's not icy cold, I can't consume it.

| Optifast additives: First and foremost: Always use refrigerated water, the colder the better. Low cal “diet” Jelly crystals, Mix them in little hot water to dissolve, then mix in with your Optifast. Artificial sweeteners can be used, although I don’t know why anyone would want to. If you are going to sweeten the shakes use the Hemasetes sweeteners. They are the only carbohydrate free sweetener. Cooking essences add a touch of the exotic to your shakes if you are getting bored with the flavours. Feel free to experiment. Most flavours will go well in the Vanilla shakes. Try the peppermint, banana, or orange essences in the chocolate. Some people add coffee powder to their vanilla shakes. I was never a fan of this, if I needed coffee, I just had a coffee, with my doctor’s full knowledge and consent. The main additives I use are a sugar free syrup call DaVinci Syrups. There may be other brands out on the market, but I really can’t go past their varieties and flavours. I only add 20 to 30ml of the syrup to the shakes and they come in 750ml bottles, so they last for ages. Just google the name for suppliers. Acceptable foods on the intensive phase. No meals only optifast, vegetables maximum of 2 cups per day, and these are the list of vegetables:- asparagus, broccoli, brussel sprouts, bok choy, cabbage, carrots, celery. cauliflower, cucumber, egg plant, lettuce, leeks, mushrooms, onions, peas, capsicum, silverbeet, spinach, squash, tomato, zuchinni, pumpkin and radish. Soups:- stocks cubes, bonox, strained broth, bovril, miso soup, soup made with allowed vegs. Sauce:- soy, Worcestershire, mustard and tomato paste. Flavouring:- lemon juice, vinegar, chilli, salt, coriander, oregano, all spice, coffee, pepper, garlic, mint, basil, nutmeg, rosemary, artificial sweetener, flavouring essence, parsley, stock powder, paprika, turmeric, cumin, basil, diet toppings. Drinks:- water, herbal tea, diet cordial, black tea plain mineral water, diet soft drink, black coffee. Other:- Diet jelly, sugar free lollies, sugar free gum. It also says you are only allowed certain foods and fluids over the day that contain very little calories (energy) You must follow the eating plan very closely, otherwise Optifast will not be as effective.
Thanks to Pyretta | |

| Just as a side noet a few of us used to slightly heat our coffee opti .. it is quite a treat to have a faux cappa in the morning on getting up. Dont heat it too much in the micro and dont use boiling water because it will curdle but warm it at 10 second increments to find the length of time you need to get it to an uncurdled heat. I think mine was approx 30 seconds in my micro | |

| Hi Westy Sorry I missed your post. How are you going with your food now? I hope you are eating real food now. To have that restriction is great and it may be where you should be. If you can't eat those foods you mentioned. Delia

| Hiya Starting Again,
The Choc and Vanilla are cheaper cos they come in larger boxes. Personally I like the chocolate.
I add orange essence to make Jaffa shakes. Decaf Coffee to make a Mocha shake. You can also add Peppermint essence.
I know some people add Diet Jelly Granules to change the flavours up a bit. Blend frozen fruit into the Vanilla shakes (if you are allowed fruit?).
And the general consensus it that Optifast is MUCH better served SUPER cold or blended with ice.
Hope this helps a bit.

| Thanks Beth. The loss has slowed down for me - l need to stop eating the kid's leftovers :-)
Chemist Warehouse has great deals on shakes for anyone with one nearby. l got some fatblaster shakes the other day. $40 for 42 shakes. They often have Optisomething on special for $50 for 42 shakes too. Much cheaper than the stuff l have in my local supermarkets...

| westy I get mine from woolworths... they are no better or worse than any of the others I have had.... the low calories is my thing. They come in chocolate, capacino, vanilla and strawberry. The best tasting shakes I have had are the lean dessert protein ones and are also around the 100 calorie mark and around 4 carbs. I buy those on line at the suppliment den... I love the banana cream one it tastes like banana paddle pops | |

| westy I have always found protein to be the best thing to stave off hunger... I use the atkins shakes or the lean dessert protein because they are only about 100 cals which means I can have them as a snack. I find that if I do hard core protein for three days straight it kicks me back on track and back into weight loss. After those three days my hunger dissapates considerably. I have only 1ml fluid in my band at the moment so the restriction is pretty negligable. | |

| Hi Westy, I am actually being banded tomorrow morning, but I have recently purchased the knife, fork and band book. It gives practical advice and menus from opti stage to normal eating menu with recipes included. I think it will prove to be an invaluable resource and it certainly makes me feel a whole lot more comfortable about what is coming up. If you google the title then you will be able to find it. I cannot recommend it highly enough.... Dee | |

| Hey Delia I rang my Dietician but shes on holiday to mid January, that means she will not be back to after I get my port put in. Must have a bit of restriction with my band - found out I cannot eat bread, sausage rolls or pastry, but at this stage have no fill in. I am a bit worried as we had not entered the food for bandits level. Can u put me in the right direction for the mean time of what a bandit eats per day, this might motivate me a bit more. Can I have a Protein drink to take away the 3.00 pm hunger. (Or is there any book on what bandits eat) Look forward to hearing from you. Must congradulate you on your weight loss. Hope to be in that weight loss area. All the Best Westy | |

| l haven't been banded yet, but l've found for weight loss before the operation that all of the things that people have been saying for ages are true. Walking, drinking loads of water, eating smaller meals with more protein, and having very few carbs at night all seem to work. l don't particularly like doing any of them, but they do work, and they're good for you too :-)
Cheers Steiny PS l don't mind the Opti, and have it at night sometimes so l don't go to bed hungry after the small evening meal.

| I've just started the Opti again. I was getting into the bad habit of not eating breakfast so I thought Opti would be a great way of getting back into a routine. Don't know what it is but I've gone way off track :-( | |

| Hi guys just need a bit of inspiration here. I was banded 27th October and had Port taken out due to severe infection 10 days later. Lost 10Kgs up to this point. Having great difficulty sticking to a Diet, hardly eating anything, but still feeling very hungry. Should I go back on the Optifast to maintain my weight loss?, or has anybody got any diet tips as to what I should be eating - Trying to keep to the 3 meals a day with no snacks. Westy | |
